“If I didn’t have the help, I wouldn’t be able to stay by myself.”
For Burlington resident Denise Faucher, it’s as simple as that.
Denise has been living on her own since her husband passed away almost a decade ago. She struggles with severe arthritis and other chronic conditions. After several surgeries, Denise was finding it increasingly difficult to manage household tasks, and her health challenges were taking their toll.
She faced a stark reality – one that many of us will confront as we get older – how could she stay in her own home? As Denise explains, “I didn’t want to go to a nursing home. And I don’t want to be a burden to my kids, they’ve got their own lives now.”
After a busy life of helping others, Denise is almost apologetic about the help she now requires. “If I was able to do more on my own, I would never ask for help. I like to be independent.”
You’ve made it possible for her to keep the independence that she so cherishes. Each week Denise receives visits from a nurse and homemaker, and gets assistance with her errands from a volunteer visitor.
Denise describes how she feels about the help she receives from you, supporters of Acclaim Health. “I’m very lucky. I think it’s the best thing that’s happened to me.”
