Client Stories

Pat finds a way to move forward after the death of her daughter, with the help of her Bereavement Peer Support volunteer, Gail.

Bereavement Peer Support

Our Bereavement Peer Support program assists in normalizing your experience of grief and loss, and provides an opportunity for you to talk about your loss and share your story in a safe, non-judgmental space one-on-one with a specially trained volunteer. Meetings between you and your volunteer can take place in your home or in another mutually agreed upon location.

We accept self-referrals and referrals from other organizations.

To access the program, please contact the Program Coordinator in your area at 905-827-8800 or 1-800-387-7127:
Burlington: Dee Kearns x2313
Oakville: Carole LaTour x2312
North Halton: Melinda Brown x2320

Become a Bereavement Peer Support Volunteer

Our Bereavement Peer Support Volunteers must complete a free training program provided by Acclaim Health. Once trained, volunteers usually visit clients 1-2 hours per week.

We are now accepting applications for our spring 2016 training session.  Training will take place Monday afternoons beginning April 4, 2016 at the Milton Sports Centre (605 Santa Maria Blvd.) from 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

If you are interested in participating please contact Mary Schnurr at 905-827-8800 x2319 or apply online.

Spousal Support Groups

You’ll have the opportunity to meet others who’ve lost a loved one, share experiences, and explore ways to move through your grief – all in a caring and understanding atmosphere.

Support groups run year round in the Halton area. Times and locations are determined based on the needs of the participants.
